Frequently Asked Questions

Clear Answers to Common Questions About Health Insurance

Choosing private medical insurance or employee benefits can feel confusing — especially if you’ve never arranged cover before or you’re reviewing an existing policy.

Below, I’ve answered some of the most common questions I’m asked. If anything isn’t covered, please feel free to get in touch — I’m always happy to help.

General Questions

What does private medical insurance cover?

Private medical insurance typically covers consultations with specialists, diagnostic tests, and inpatient or day-patient treatment, including surgery. Treatment takes place in modern private hospitals and clinics, helping you avoid long NHS waiting times. Policies can also include optional extras such as physiotherapy or mental health support.

Is private medical insurance expensive?

Not necessarily. Modern policies are highly flexible, meaning you can tailor cover to suit your needs and budget. Many people are surprised at how affordable private medical insurance can be once unnecessary extras are removed.

Do you charge for your advice?

No — my service is completely free. I’m paid by insurers, not by you, which means you get independent, expert advice at no cost and with no obligation to proceed.

Can I change my policy if I’ve already made a claim?

Yes, in many cases you can. It’s a common misconception that claims prevent you from switching insurers. I’ll always check whether a continuation of terms is possible and would only recommend a change if you wouldn’t be disadvantaged.

Is private medical insurance only for businesses?

No. While I specialise in employee benefits and business medical insurance, I also arrange private medical insurance for individuals and families across the UK.

How long does it take to set up a policy?

This can vary depending on a number of factors, but in some cases it can be as little as ten minutes. I’ll guide you through the process and explain everything clearly, without intrusive or unnecessary questions.

Do you only work with clients in Hull?

I’m based in Hull, but I support clients across the UK. Everything can be arranged by phone or email, making the process quick and convenient wherever you’re located.

Why use a broker instead of going direct to an insurer?

Using a broker gives you access to market-wide comparisons, expert insight, and ongoing support — at no extra cost. I help you avoid unsuitable cover, explain policy wording, and support you at renewal or claim stage.
